The ArmyBuckHunters crew hit the ground running at ATA 2025 in Indianapolis, testing cutting-edge gear and linking up with top partners like Hawke Optics and Frogg Toggs. From firing off arrows with Darton’s new Sequel series to checking out the game-changing XB30 ZOOM FFP crossbow scope, it was a full-throttle weekend of bowhunting brotherhood. With the Hoyt RX-9 still fresh in our hands from pre-show testing, choosing our 2025 bow setup just got a whole lot tougher. One thing’s for sure—this season is shaping up to be one of the best yet.

A Season to Remember: Reflections on Split Brow, Peter Pan, and the Hunt for CPT Hook with ArmyBuckHunters Host Shawn Dalrymple

As the archery season winds down, ArmyBuckHunters host Shawn Dalrymple reflects on a year defined by persistence, skill, and the thrill of the hunt. This season, two exceptional bucks—Split Brow and Peter Pan—highlighted Shawn’s dedication, while a legendary buck known as CPT Hook remains the one that got away, keeping the story alive.

Split Brow, a two-year pursuit, tested Shawn’s patience and preparation. After meticulously tracking the buck’s movements with Wise Eye trail cameras, Shawn finally had his moment during opening week. With a perfect shot, he brought the elusive buck to harvest, sharing the triumph with his friend Zac, who had supported him through the journey.

Peter Pan’s story, on the other hand, was rooted in tradition. Named to complement a buck called CPT Hook, Peter Pan eluded Shawn for years. This season, under challenging conditions, Shawn made a near-perfect shot, completing the playful legend. Yet, CPT Hook—the buck with the distinctive hooked tine—remains at large, a symbol of the ongoing adventure and mystery that fuels Shawn’s passion for the outdoors.

“Knowing CPT Hook is still out there keeps me coming back,” Shawn shares. “Hunting isn’t just about the harvest; it’s about the chase, the lessons, and the stories we carry with us.”
